On August 31, China Jianyin Investment (JIC), together with JIC Technology Investment and I M WAY hosted a forum in Beijing on the topic of artificial intelligence. The discussion at the investment forum focused on the global development and technological trends in AI as well as AI industrial applications and policy orientation. It also explored how China’s AI industry could use capital opportunities to break through any development dilemma.
Addressing the forum, Zhuang Qianzhi, assistant president of JIC, said JIC is an integrated investment group focused on equity investments. Its mission is to promote technological progress and industrial upgrading, strengthen the culture of the country, support consumption upgrade and improve people’s livelihood. In line with the mission, a focus area of investment is information technology. He added it is necessary to fully understand the great opportunities in AI, adopt the concept of value investment and implement new development concepts, as well as promote the deep integration of AI in the real economy.
At the event, Shan Xue, general manager of JIC Technology Investment, introduced the “Development of China’s Intelligent Interconnection Investment” report for 2018. It is the third consecutive year in which JIC Technology Investment has published the annual report which provides an in-depth study of the intelligent Internet industry through the aspects of industrial features, technological evolution, investment and financing as well as applications.
In his speech, Shan Xue said JIC Technology Investment (JIC Tech-inv) is JIC’s investment platform for new generation information technology. With more than 20 years of experience, and an industrial strategy based on value investment, it actively deploys technology such as AI, empowering domestic AI enterprises through industrial synergies in an approach that maximize the interests of both capital and business. JIC Tech-inv has been active in the field of information technology, including AI, successfully investing in projects such as Horizon Robotics, Unisound and Shouqi Limousine and Chauffeur.
Dai Qionghai, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the professor of Tsinghua University delivered a keynote speech on "Brain Science and AI,” in which he pointed out that the development of AI has reached the stage of "biological-intelligence" including the cognitive mechanism of brain science. Existing algorithms are still far from the ideal intelligence; there is an urgent need to explore brain science, which would be significant to the further development of artificial intelligence.
Sun Zhenan, deputy chief engineer and director of the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave a speech entitled “AI Technology and Industrial Development", tracing the history of the development of artificial intelligence and industry, the current situation as well as China’s AI industry. Sun also highlighted the "smart+" form of AI development.
Yu Kai, Founder and CEO of Horizon Robotics, spoke about the achievements the company has made in the Journey 2.0 processor it has developed. He said that Horizon adheres to the approach of soft and hard integration of "algorithm + processor", to provide industrial customers with integrated and open-embedded AI solutions of high performance, low power and low cost, in the areas of intelligent driving, intelligent cities and intelligent business. These solutions have the abilities of perception, understanding and decision-making.
The salon also included a roundtable discussion on "Innovation and Integration", during which representatives from Horizon, Unisound, Amazon, NXP Semiconductors and Infineon exchanged their views on the cutting-edge trends and capital opportunities in AI, as well as the industry integration of AI technology.
